Raised between the bustling streets of Brooklyn and the quiet rhythms of the American South, Marla Raye draws in a rich tapestry person and communal histories to craft stories that pulse with authenticity and emotional depth.
After earning a degree in Urban Studies, Marla Raye spent two decades working in public service; experiences that deeply inform her nuanced portrayals of working-class life, spiritual struggle, and the complexities of love. Her writing is celebrated for its candid dialogue, multi-generational scope, and fearless examination of taboo subjects--especially the hidden lives of women in faith communities.
Marla Raye's debut novel "Alley Cat," was inspired by her own journey through marriage, ministry, and reinvention. When not writing, she mentors emerging writers, cooks, and volunteers at local literacy programs. She lives in Denver with two rescue cats, and an ever-growing collection of polka-dot shoes.
